Looking at Bush Hog brand 6 foot rotary cutters. Any idea on the cost of both the SQ (squealer low end) and their medium duty 6 footer?

I am not too far from you (upstate SC), and just ordered a 6 foot medium duty bush hog (286) from the Kubota dealer. I'm paying $2100 with the safety chains included. It was $1950 without them. I didn't try to haggle with them on price, so you may be able to do a little better.

The 7 food medium duty (296) was about $2850 I think.

Last year before the new BushHog came out, I got a price of $1799 on a 286

Year and a half back, I got a 286 that had been on the dealers lot for a full year. Paid $1500 with chains. Wish I'd bought 2 now.

2 yrs ago, my 286 with front chains was $1650 in Cookeville, TN at the NH dealer. It had apparently been on their lot for a while (some rust). I had gotten a quote for this amount from the N GA Kubota dealer, and called and asked the NH dealer if they would sell me one for that price. He said OK. I don't think they really knew the one they had in stock had the chains!

I recently paid $1820 for a Deere LX6 which includes safety chains f/r. I was also recently quoted $2050 total for a Woods Brushbull 72" with the optional safety chains. I think that's the ballpark for quality 6' rotary cutters.

I am slightly amazed at the price difference between those and a KK or Howse; there is obviously a quality difference, but I'm not sure the quality difference is two and a half to one. That being said, I bought the LX6 anyway. If you think about how incredibly dangerous a cutter is if a part fails and sends stuff flying, the quality is worth it (as are the safety chains).
