Planters More Information On the Yetter Flex 71 Planter

I have been looking at the Yetter Flex 71 one-row planter. It appears that you are better off buying your own 4-inch toolbar for your three-point hitch separately. If you buy their hitch assembly plus the tool bar from Yetter you are going to be well over $400. I believe you can purchase the toolbar for much less money that will attach to your three-point hitch. I also found out that the new Yetter Flex 71 planter does not come with any seed plates. You have to purchase the seed plates separately. You purchase those plates from a company called: Lincoln Agricultural Products. The seed plates are plastic and run about $10.50 for each plate. Do you all know where to look for a 4-inch toolbar that will attach to a three-point hitch and other source for the seed plates?

If you buy a Yetter planter and want seed plates, contact me via PM. I've got boxes and boxes of them. (John Deere "type B" plates) I have both cast iron original Deere and Lustran plastic plates.

You can buy material and make a hitch for around $100, cheaper yet if you're a "scrounger" .

Seed plates attach to the planter to assist in planting various types of seed. Seed as you know come in all shapes and sizes and the plates have holes or notches in the plates to accomdate the various shape and size seeds.

Seed plates go in the bottom of the seed hopper. They are driven (rotated) by the mechanics of the planter. Each plate has notched openings that vary in size from plate to plate. The notch is sized to accomodate ONE seed. As the plate rotates, it will carry seed to an opening that allows the seed to drop through a tube to the opening in the soil created by the disc opener (or runner) Back in "the good 'ol days", before air planters and other plateless planters, seed corn manufactuers would list plate #'s required on their seed bags.

"Plates" are actually more of a ring. They are (in the case of Deere "type b") about 6" in dia., with an opening of approx. 5" in the middle. There are "dogs" in the middle than catch on complimenting "dogs" on the planters "drive". The outer edge of the plate has those "serrated" notches that carry the seed to the seed drop. Older original plates were cast iron. The Lustran plates are plastic. Both do the job if they're sized right.

Plates come in 12 cell, 16 cell, 20 cell, and 24 cell. (Cell= the notches to carry the seed) With a variable speed "drive" on the planter that controls the rotation of the plate, and the various cell spacings, you can regulate the seed spacing when planting.

Dig around on Ebay for a while, you are bound to find a JD 71 Flexi planter in one or two row configuration. I paid about $800 for mine (with shipping) a couple years ago. Mine is a 2 row unit, mounted to a Cat 1 3pt tool bar, with the larger fiberglass seed hoppers.

I am looking for John Deere flex 71's in Central Louisiana to make a one or two row planter. I see some on ebay but they are hundreds of miles away. Anyone know of any in Louisiana? Thanks.
