Farmwithjunk, I went to the Lincoln Agricultural Products web site to see what see plates were available for the Flex 71 planter. I did not see plates for watermelon, orka, eggplant, lima beans, etc. Can you plant these seeds with the Flex 71? Are there plants available for these seeds? Thank you for posting explaining the cells in the plates. I assume the higher the of cells the closer the plants will be on the row and the smaller the of cells the further apart the plants will be on the row. Is this correct? Thanks again for your information.

You won't see plates listed for those crops. You may find "blank" plates. You take them and a small file and make your own plates IF the corn/milo/bean plates won't work. I've planted sunflowers with corn plates.

High cell count will drop more seed per revolution. Also, the planter has adjustable gearing to change spacing. It's all explained in a #71 manual. (I've got one of those to sell too)

Back in the day, Deere offered an attachment to the #71 that was essentially a small seed planter that fit INSIDE of the #71 seed hopper. It would plant seed as small as the head of a pin. They're no longer available. The last ones in Deere's system sold for around $1200 per row.

For VERY small seed, take a look at PLANET Jr. row units. (Cole/Covington handles them)

By either using blanks or by altering holes on some of the available seed plates, you can plant things like pumpkin, watermelon, sunflower, green beans, or anything else that has a modestly large seed.
