Where to buy 3 or 4 bottom plow new?

The only one I found was from a local dealer that was 2300 bucks! As far as used plows, a well used oliver or massey 3 bottom seems to be high 300 or high 400 dollar range. I can buy a 2 bottom leinbach for around 500 bucks, but need 3 or 5 bottoms. I have enough oomph to pull it. Any help appreciated.

If you want new, you've already been to the local dealer(s) I don't know what else to tell you. On the other hand if a used plow is acceptable, try New & Used farm equipment, tractors, combines, and other used and new machinery by Fastline Publications

Moldboard plows are fast fading from the picture, but there are still plenty of reasons guys need to keep using them (self included).

Unless you have real nice ground or a different tractor then what is in your profile you will not want anything bigger then a 3 bottom plow. FWJ gave you the link to the best plow company on the market if you want new but they have a nice price tag. If you are going to plow any amount they are worth it.

Have you considered a disk plow? Monroe Tufline makes 3-disc disc plows that would be suitable:
Agriculture TDP Disc Plows - Monroe Tufline

Or, maybe consider a chisel plow:
Agriculture Chisel Plows - Monroe Tufline
(or several other companies, such as Baltic)

As noted, moldboard plows are rapidly disappearing from big ag. I think most farmers who still do conventional tillage are using offset discs, but those don't generally come in a size suitable for a 5105. The disc plow above is very similar and would probably be, in 3-disc configuration, the biggest plow you could buy new and realistically pull.

Not sure where you are but Godlett auction in Orangeburg often has used 3 bottom plows. Mostley MF or Dearborns/Ford. Check Machinefinder or Fastine. Nothing wrong with a used plow.
Seen used 4-5 flip over plows but I think you going to need 70+ pto hp for those.

I didn't look to see what tractor you had. Robert's right, you're not going to get very far with more than a 3 bottom. I've got an old Ford about the same HP as your tractor and I can make her snort with 3-14's. But then I have pretty heavy ground too.

And... Kverneland is as good as you'll find.

by the way, why do you recommend disk plows? I se them every now and then on farms around here, but can't imagine why they would be better thana bottom plow

I am far, far from an expert on plows. I'm mostly suggesting the disc plow because I am aware of a company selling 3-disc disc plows new, and I don't know anyone selling 3-bottom moldboard plows new (though apparently that Kverneland company does). I think those disc plows will do basically the same thing as a 14" moldboard plow. I'd be happy to hear any experts chime in on the pros/cons.

I've done some shopping for used equipment, both at auction and at a used dealer, and so far I've seen junk for sale at brand-new prices. That may be just how it is in my area and maybe you can get much better deals in your area.

A 5105 should be able to EASILY handle 3X14"'s in "typical" S Carolina soils. assuming yours is "typical". Get into hard baked clay soil and 2X14"'s might make it snort.

Remember, a plow should be used at 1/2 as deep as the bottoms width. (i.e a 16" plow should work 8" deep.) 12" or 14" don't roll dirt over completely if you try to plow 8" or 9" down. That gives a 12" or 14" plow a distinct advantage when we talk HP required, but limits depth you're able to plow.

Massey FErguson. Ford, and Oliver (White) made excellent 3-point plows back in the day. The Ford 101, and Massey #66 or #43 plows are about as good as a mounted plow can get. Replacement parts are still available, albiet hard to find and expensive, but they are rebuildable. Doubtful you'll find anything new that would come close to comparing dollar for dollar with a completely rebuilt Ford 101 or Massey #66. Those plows are frequently sold in the $200 to $400 price range for a 2 or 3 bottom version. New shares, shins, landslides, moldboards, coverboards (if equipped), and coulter hubs will set you back on average, around $250 per bottom. That'll get you in business with a "new" old plow (with all new wear parts) in the $800 to $1200 range, depending on price paid initially for the plow and number of bottoms. For the record, you WON'T buy a new Knverneland plow in that price range.
