I am looking for a 3pt sprayer for spraying roundup. I am looking for one in the 55 gallon range. I noticed today that none of the ones I looked at came with pumps. what would be a good priced pump that will work with one of these sprayers with roundup. also how are the pumps hooked up. the unit will not see a ton of use, maybe a couple times a year. and water will be available for rinsing. northern tool, and agri supply are fairly close to me, but shipping on a pump alone should not be too much. thanks in advance

Pretty much any ag dealer can get you a complete setup with a boomless spray head for about $600 or less from Ag Meier or simular. Most will have a cast iron Hypro 6500 roller pump that you could probably get at tractor supply or Northern Tool for less than $100. If you're only using it a few times a year and you rinse it out after you use it....it should last a long time. If you get a Hypro SilverCast pump, it'll probably outlast you.

Roller pumps, such as the various Hypros, last a long time and generate relatively high pressure and flow. You'll need to purchase a coupler and torque arm separately to connect the pump to your PTO shaft and to keep the pump from spinning. These pumps come in various grades based on their resistance to corrosion (glyphosate is corrosive). The highest grades can be fairly expensive, though they are sometimes available on Ebay at a steal. Make sure you put a filter on the supply line to your pump.
A less expensive alternative for limited spraying is a 12V DC pump. Northern Tool sells a 3 gpm, 40-50psi unit for around $80. Just hook up to your tractor's electrics. Get one with Viton seals to prevent degradation by corrosive spray chemicals. Good luck.

Hypro only recommends their most expensive pump for Round-up (glysophate). I know from experience that their cheap model will give up the ghost after extended use of Round-up. However, if you will flush it good after each use and put oil in it, the cheaper cast iron models will last a long time. Pick your poison, buy a $90.00 pump every few years or spend almost $300.00 and get one that will last a lifetime.
