CHAIN DRAG HARROW

   / CHAIN DRAG HARROW #61
Fedex freight called and said my Marten's is out for delivery today. I probably won't be able to use it until early next week so I will report back then. I have a lot manure to run through it so we'll see how it handles that.

I broke the 2nd one within about 7 acres.
chain on the pull bar came apart (welded joint)
I called them up, the guy said "oh, I was afraid of that, I was in a hurry and used hardware store chain because my regular stuff was out"

so, luckily I brought my other harrow (because I KNEW this might happen) and finished, and only the draw bar needs to be replaced which he said he's going to do.

So, still in limbo

You have GOT to be kidding me!! What are they gonna do? Keep bringing you out new parts and pieces every couple of days? I'm beginning to wonder seriously about the durability of this harrow! But I do look forward to this "Review" in progress you have going.

Well, if it can get thru me and be tough enough, then it should survive ANYBODY.
I give them that they are trying and putting a good effort into it and I do appreciate that. Although by the time we get it fixed the snow might be flying. :(

I was able to get out get my fields done this morning. All things considered the Martens did what I needed it too do as far as dethatch the patures and spread out the horse manure. It took very little time to do 4.5 to 5.0 acres as I was able to run the tractor at a decent pace. I did manage to bend two teeth but they still work fine and since they are replacable, no worries. Here are some pics.

Hey guys,

where do you buy the teeth for the martens harrow, and how much are they? I've got some extra pipe laying around. I might just weld the teeth to the pipe and try this thing out.

You can get the teeth directly from Martens. They are $2.75 each. The cutting edge on the teeth are somewhat diamond/arrowhead shaped if I recall with the top portion being a normally threaded bolt pattern. If you your piping is of large enough diameter you can drill two holes straight through your pipe and mount the teeth with a nut and two washers on each side rather than having to break out the welder. Just an idea . . .

Almost time to start working on pasture prep for the fall. Rgis thread ended about a year ago so I am wondering what new info you folks may hav esince then. I need to buy a drag harrow. Any recommendations based on your experiences this past year?
