Rear Blade Heavy duty rear blade

Who makes the most rugged rear blade (cost not really an issue)? Will be going on a 43hp 4wd tractor. I'm thinking 6' or 7'. Thanks again for the help.

I don't know who makes the most rugged, but I can tell you that a Landpride Series 35 is pretty much impossible to tear up with that size tractor, or one anywhere close.

I don't know who makes the toughest one either, but I'll bet you couldn't break a Monroe Tufline.

I agree with Bird, the Monroe TufLine http:// monroetufline.com products are good. The Gannon http:// woodsonline.com (look under construction)) equipment is good too. Gannon is heavier and more expensive.

Rowski, I have a Hardee-Williams ABH-84. It has proven to be a very good blade. It is well constructed. I have had blades in the past that would get a lot of slop in them after some use. This blade has remained tight after much use. Like others, I can't really say which blade would be the most heavy duty when cost doesn't matter. I did note, however, that a six foot size is under possible consideration. I don't know the tire tread width of your 43 HP tractor, but I'll wager that it is probably about six feet or larger (mine is). The utility of a six foot blade mounted on such a tractor is rather limited because as soon as the blade is adjusted to an angle to move material off to the side, the effective width of the blade can decrease the point that you will be working an area smaller than the tread width. This is usually undesirable. I'd say go with a larger size.

I bought an inexpensive ($650) 8 ft Cat II blade for up to 85 HP. It swivels 360 degrees and tilts in 2 positions each side. When set at any reasonable angle it grades about 6 ft wide. The blade weights about 600#. You would need to install Cat I pins in place of the cat II for your tractor. Look at the HP rating - it gives a pretty good indication of the ruggedness.

Next consideration is whether the 3 point on the tractor is suitable for an 8 ft blade as the blade may now be heavy enough but the tractor may not be. If you hang the tip of an 8 ft blade on a rock, you really need to be going slow and paying attention. I sure like a box blade better than a rear blade, but it won't grade snow or dig ditches.

I just got thru researching the same thing and found a Landpride 35 series and Bushhog 70 series side by side. Only advantage to either one was the actual blade on the bushhog was a little better braced.

Thanks for all the input. Bought a Woods HBL84 heavy duty 7'. Also bought (in the same purchase) a Woods LR107 rake (7') with dual casters. Again thanks for the help.
