I've read here that the PAT'S EASY CHANGE system lengthens the lower arms by about 4", which may cause PTO shaft to be short. I guess it's cheaper to get longer PTO shaft than to replace lower arms with shorter ones. Anyone know what shorter lower arms might cost for replacement??

I'm pretty sure that 4" figure you read would have been one of the larger PEC sizes. I think the Cat 1 is closer to 2.5", so you might want to recheck your numbers before spending money unnecessarily

I just looked at mine (Deere 790, Cat 1). It's a good 4".

I don't doubt you measured 4" someplace Roy. But my Cat 2 PEC measures 4" from the center of the swivel ball pin to the center of the implement lift pin. So if a Cat 2 is extended 4", it stands to reason that a Cat 1 would be less than 4" - by virtue of the smaller Cat 1 hook size and lift pin diameter.

That said, I've never actually measured a Cat 1 myself - I'm just repeating that 2-3/4" measurement posted by another Cat 1 PEC owner last year. Perhaps there's been a design change at Greenwell since that measurement, and/or since my Cat 2 was purchased.

I believe they use the same forging for both Cat 1 and Cat 2...just the hole sizes are different (Cat 2 has a bigger hole diameter).

All I can say is the distance from the ball (on the lower link) hole to the center of the lifting lug on my Cat 1 PEC is 4".

Think about what you just wrote Roy. The Cat 2 PEC hook has to to be sized to pick up a Cat 2 lift pin 1-1/8" in diameter. It also has to be of sufficient strength to safely pick up a Cat 2 implement. The Cat 1 would be constructed to deal with 7/8" pins and lighter implement weights.

I measured mine with an implement mounted, a boxblade wearing Cat 2 lift pins. Center of lift pin to center of swivel pin is 4". I'm struggling to see how the smaller Cat 1 PEC - unless redesigned since I bought mine - would measure the same.

Perhaps George's question would be more accurately answered by simply calling Greenwell's at (888) 243-4204. That way he could get a measurement on the current Cat 1 design.
