I'd like to add a backhoe to my Ford/NH 1920. Had found a great deal on a wallenstein GX700 and was ready to buy when I was told there was no sub frame mount available. My questions are 1) how important is the subframe mount? 2) has anyone had experience with the GX700??? 3) Any reccomendations on other backhoe manufactures??? This is my first tractor and i'd like to do it right

Same answer here as in the other post. 3pt backhoes are hard on tractors. if you get a 3pt.. consider it ligght duty or you may break your nice 1920 in half.

The stabilizer legs are not supporting the backhoe when you are transporting it (it is a lot of weight to have hanging that far out). Also, as you dig you push and pull constantly straining the housing of the tractor. The legs only help keep you stable as you are digging in one spot. They do nothing else to protect the tractor from the shocks associated with digging.
I just looked at your profile, do you have a subframe for your backhoe on the 1910? The 1910 and 1920 are great tractors but they can not take the abuse of using a backhoe.

As robert has said.. the backhoe is a long arm and is a very strong one.. the weak point will be the trans bolts/bellhousing usually.

Is your friends backhoe mounted to just the 3pt or does it have a sub-frame? I have seen Ford/NH and Kubota compacts broken because of backhoes mounted to the 3pt. So if your buddies 1920 doesn't have a sub-frame you can be amused all you want but when the tractor does crack make sure you laugh in front of your buddy when he gets the bill to repair it.I would never mount a 3pt backhoe to my 1920 without a subframe. And given the fact I have a TN I would put a backhoe on that tractor before the compact anyway as it has a lot more steel.

Me personally? I'll just fire up the old 410D and skip the lightweights.

So does it have a sub-frame then or do you not know? Being a factory setup I would think it came with a sub-frame and if it has a sub-frame then there is no concern about breaking the tractor. This discussion wasn't about using 3pt backhoes it was about a compact tractor needing a sub-frame to use one without doing any harm to the tractor. If it is always on the tractor I would think it has a sub-frame. I won't use a 3pt backhoe at all. I have one at my disposal but it is useless. If I need to do any major amount of digging I just rent an excavator or use the Ford 4500 TLB. Its old, leaks oil and looks ugly but it gets the job done on small jobs.
