Anybody used the agri-fab 3 point hitch aerator? Is it any good? Seems like a great value compared to other 3 point models which are $500 and higher. It is $299 at Sears. Lowes offers it also, but they want $484. Not sure of the reason for the price difference, but Lowes will honor the price plus 10%. That makes it any even better value.

Are you talking about a spike aerator or core aerator? I also havent seen any 3 pt equipment at the lowes or sears, it was all hitch pulled.. Ill have to take a closer look

I borrowed a friends hitch core aerator that came from Sears that did a great job on my lawn.. I had about 160 lbs of weight on it and i was getting up to 3" plugs.. Northern Tool has a similar aerator for about $180..

For the money and limited use I would put on it, one of these would be perfect for what I need.. They are not nearly as heavy metal as the 3pt aerators, but they also lots cheaper..

It is a core aerator. I first saw it on Sears' website. Lowes does not have it on display, but there is a book hanging in the aisle that shows all kinds of additional Agri-fab equipment that can be ordered. My guess is that it is built alot like the pull behinds, but just mounts on the 3 point. It is probably not as heavy built as the other 3 point models that you can buy, but it is probably good enough for the homeowner that uses it a couple of times per year. It is definitely cheaper than any other 3 point that I have seen, and I think that the 3 point would be more maneuvureable.

Ok.. I found it on the Sears website.. HMMMM, I agree with you that for the occasional user it would work just fine. It will go on my short list.. The only thing is it doesnt show how wide it is..

The guy that I talked to at Lowes the other day thought that it was 48". I will confirm before I buy it. I wouldn't want it to be any narrower.

I am splitting the cost we a buddy from work, so at most it should see 4 uses per year. This will help to cut the cost done even more.

48" does seem to be about the widest you can get without going to the heavy duty 3pt stuff.. Splitting the cost with a buddy is a great idea as well..

BTW - Looking at the normal lawn/garden aerators/rollers etc. that are hitch drawn, how do you connect them to anything except SCUT or lawn/garden mowers.. the scut's have the thinner hitch on the back like the lawn/garden tractors.. The compacts have a much thicker drawbar or swinging draw bar.

I went to Sears' website this morning to print off the aerator showing the $299.99 price so that I could take it to Lowes and have them match the price. Much to my surprise, Sears is having a two day sale that expires 4/21. The 3 point aerator was $15 off making it $284.99. I took it to Lowes and they matched the price, but would not cut the additional 10%. That only applies to stock items, not special order items. Oh well, it is still a pretty good deal. They ordered it for me this morning.

Did anybody find the link the aerator on the Sears Web Page. My neighbor and I rented a 3 ft pull type just last night and it worked pretty good. But the pull type is not good in tight corners as you can't turn very tight. I would really like to get a cheap 3 point one.

I went to the sears.com.. then the 'lawn and garden' section and then did a search for 'aerator'

Brian,

That is what I did. I even went to the agr-fab web page and could not find a 3 point one. Your link works. The 36" is a tad bit small for me and am wondering if the 32 gauge is too light also. But the price is nice. As I said my neighbor and me rented a pull type 36" for $45.00 for a day. Pretty cheap and could get by pretty cheap if we got other neighbors involved. But I would rather have a 3 point to get in the tight corners. I wishd the agri-fab page would show a 3 point and they made a 48" at least.
