Grapple Install

One of the most confusing things about all of this hydraulic plumbing is the vast array of possible connector types and how they go together. NPT vs. JIC etc. etc. Some self-seal others need dope, and the dope is different than the water plumbing stuff. I've only done a couple of projects and I did both of them wrong and they leaked. So watch out for that!

Well, so far (knocking on wood here), with the EHV from WR Long installed (but not powered, nor in use), I haven't had any leaks yet in the little bit I've operated my loader. So, if I'm going to get leaks, it'll likely be "down stream" from the EHV to the grapple. That's the only part that hasn't had fluid under pressure flowing trough it yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The grapple arrived today. That's one heavy, mean looking piece of equipment. :)

I see what you mean about the hoses that came with it.

For what it's worth, I've had my Millonzi LD48 for over a year now and put it through all sorts of grief without any hint of a problem with the factory supplied hydraulic hoses. I don't even have a protective sleeve on them.

I did get the "Optional Bulkhead Kit" from WR Long. It includes a 1/4"x4"x4" plate with quick connects that is to be welded to the loader cross bar. And, there is an "extra" set of hoses that came with the WR Long kit. So, you're saying that I may need the quick connects off of the "extra" hoses to put on the grapple hoses? Or, just use those hoses in place of the ones that come with the grapple?

Bamarob---When you get a chance could you post a pic of the bulkhead kit?
I've been using cable ties to hold my hoses but would like to have something permanent. Was the bulkhead kit expensive and is it something you can order from Long without getting the rest of the kit? Thanks

I just viewed the Long web site and was able to see what the bulkhead kit looks like. Thanks............Ozz

Oleozz,

The bulkhead kit I got looks nothing like the one they have pictured on their website. I'm sure it's slightly different depending on the model of loader you have. Mine is probably the most generic. It's simply a 1/4"x4"x4" plate with two holes into which the hose quick connects are mounted. It's intended to be welded to the loader cross bar (the one in the picture appears to be bolted onto the cross bar).

So where's the pic of the grapple?

Yeah, the Millonzi supplied hoses don't necessarily look "inferior." They just don't look as "nice" (whatever that means; eye of the beholder and all that) as the hoses from WR Long (the ones that are too short to use :(). I'm going to use the Millonzi supplied hoses. I just wish the QC's from the WR Long supplied hoses would fit them. I'm going to try to find an adapter to fit the threaded end of the Millonzi supplied hoses that will reduce the threaded end diameter down to match the QC's on the WR Long hoses. That's going to be the most economic route for me right now. Of course that introduces one more joint/coupling that will be a potential leak point. :(

:) I'll try to post one this afternoon/evening. Little league practice/games are really cutting into my "play" time. They're only kids once, though. The tractor and grapple will still be there later.

Hopefully, I'll have everything plumbed by this w/e and can get with a buddy (that welds :)) either this w/e or early next week to weld the bulkhead plate on. Then, I should be ready to play.

Later,

Not to deviate from BamaRob's thread, but I'm assuming you already have yours hooked up so you might not need the QD's or extra hoses that come with the kit? If that's correct, then you could make your own bulkehead for a couple bucks and put some holes in it. You could make it exactly for where and how you want including hole spacement. You need to weld their's anyway. I made my own, although this one is for the rear remote QD's, but you get the idea. It cost me $2 bucks for the scrap plate.

3RRL speaks wisely. If you already have the hoses and quick connects, just fabricate (or get your friend who welds to fabricate :)) a plate to mount the quick connects on. The 1/4" material from WR Long is probably overkill. I'm sure thinner material (just don't go too thin) would work fine.
