Thanks, IslandTractor. That was exactly the type response I was hoping for.

We got a light shower yesterday morning. This allowed me to burn my first grapple-piled brush pile last evening. Much of the brush I cleaned up for this pile was in my lawn, so I had to be careful with the tines digging up the grass. I found that I was much more efficient in the formerly wooded area where I could be more aggressive and not worry about ripping up the sod.

Your pictures are great. I really like the one with the deer shot through the open grapple. I have lots of planned habitat improvement projects where my grapple will play a big role, specifically targeting improving the habitat for deer.

Thanks for the tips. If you discover other tricks, please share them. I'll do the same.

Thanks,

BamaRob

Bama,

Don't forget you owe us photos of your bulkhead kit install. :) Happy grappling.

Hi Robert in Bama,

I really enjoyed your posts and pictures on the project. It's good to see how others do it!

A question or two about the WR Long valve, (since I have one on my new tractor), and do not know much about it. When you installed it, how did you know how to set the pressures on the valve...or did it come already pre-adjusted for the hyd-psi for your tractor? Did you tinker with it?

I would like to try adjusting mine a little but not quite sure how.

Redbug,

I haven't done anything with the WR Long valve except plumb the hydraulics and run the wiring. It works great, so I assume it came pre-adjusted for my hydraulic system. If it's adjustable, I'm the wrong person to ask about tweaking it. Sorry.

Finally got the bulkhead plate welded on yesterday. I plan to paint and get pictures this evening. Stay tuned...

I just realized that I still haven't posted pictures of the bulkhead kit since it was welded on. But, since I had it welded on in essentially the same place as I had it temporarily secured with zip-ties, the photos farther up this thread ( here and here) pretty much look just like it looks now. The angle of the final assembly may be slightly different than in the pictures, but it's close enough that you get the idea.

And, by the way, the grapple has performed great. Like everyone else that has one says, "I don't know how I got along without one!"

Glad to hear your grapple is working well for you. I have transferred mine to a new tractor and I was just rereading your initial install thread. I now have a WRLong diverter set up including a welded bulkhead mount. Only problem now is that I need to add about 12-16 inch extensions on to the hydraulic hoses from the mount to the grapple. I cannot fully dump with the old hoses as they stretch even with the grapple tilted down and closed. The original hoses were fine with the first tractor as I did not have the connections made at a fixed welded mount. I am still using the grapple but miss being able to "come over the top" of things. Currently I can only scoop up. Ah well, it won't be that difficult to fix so long as I can remember to order the hose extensions.
