I seem to have this trouble with nearly every hydraulic 'project' I take on. I got a nice coat of Kubota Orange paint on the CCM toplink and hooked it up but I have leaks between the hoses and the valve, and between the hoses and the Quick Disconnect connectors. Am I supposed to use pipe dope on these kinds of connectors? Any special kind? I've read about being careful with tape, so I got a tube. With the variety of hydraulic fittings out there, I can't keep track of which need dope and which don't. Any other tips?

I use a teflon paste simular to THIS on all the fittings. As you said, the tape can cause problems.

I don't think it is normal for any hydraulic connector to leak. Could you possibly have a burr on one of the connecting ends?

I also used teflon paste on my pipe thread hydraulic fittings when i hooked up my CCM HTL recently. All of my fittings leaked on the first hookup except the tapered fitting on one end of the hoses that my hyraulic hose maker told me to use nothing on :( .I cleaned them reapplied the teflon past and retightened the fittings. Since this was my first hydraulic project I was a little cautious and had not tightened them enough the first time. No leaks on the next hookup :)
By the way i painted mine black.

It is not the QD that is leaking - it is where the QD 'connects' to the hose. Mark and CCM confirmed the pipe dope too. Thanks everyone!

Thanks for the link!

It is so hard to tell - is this stuff different from the tubes you find in the plumbing dept at Home Depot or Lowes?

A note: The correct fitting to use at the check valve for CCM top and side links is 3/8 BSPP to JIC or what ever you want to use. It is a staight thread and an O ring is used with the fitting. An NPTM fitting will mesh with it and works well most of the time and is always easier to find.

Yes, it's different. Get the good stuff and do it once:D

As I suspected. Will do. Thanks!

There was some stuff from Locktite, called Hydraulic Sealent. It was in a red tube and was liquid. I've not seen around lately, but it worked. I used to be a construction mechanic and we had to have stuff that worked. bjr
