I have a Bearcat Chipper shredder that I purchased for my Honda 5013 10 odd years ago. I recently bought a Kioti CK20 with significantly more power. The chipper is set up to run at the 2000 RPM output of the Honda, the Kioti has a 540 rpm PTO. Any ideas of how to purchase a gearbox that will provide a 4:1 increase off the tractor to drive the chipper?

4:1 is going to be to fast it will fly apart as that is actually 2160 rpms. Unless you keep the speed down on hte engine. The ration you realy need is 3.7:1 I am working on a project about the same way for the mid mount mower to rear conversion. You may want to do it with pulleys instead. that is what i am looking at doing. If you by chance do find a gear box please post the info and let me know buti have not found one to do what i need yet

Bearcat has their manuals online. bearcat supportSome of the models share "DNA" - for example I just bought a 73554 which has a pully to speed up the 540rpm. They also offer a Honda engine powered version of the same - I think it too is belt drive, but at a 1:1 ratio.

You may be able to find some parts from another model that "will fit" yours to convert the rpm. Although, it may get expensive fast.

Belt drive is the way to go (vs a gearbox).

If you have some pix of the unit, & a model # it would help.
