I just picked up this 315 gallon caged water tank for $50. It contained Silicone Emulsion solution. I want to use it to store water for my vegetable garden and trees. The MSDS reports seem ok. What do you guys think? Would you rinse it out and use it for water storage. I attached a photo of the container and one of the label.

I would go ahead and use it. The previous commodity is not hazardous. I am currently using 3 of these for the same purpose.

I added a small shallow well pump with a 5 gal pressure tank to the camlock end. This allowed me to run a 150' length of garden hose for watering.

You should be able to rinse it out. But it's gonna take a LOT of water. Get a pressure washer wand and bend it so it can get inside there and spray all sides. Then dump it out and then flush with 20 gal of clean water. Repeat that 5 times. Should be pretty well diluted at that point.

Can you go onto the mfg web page and get the msds for the chemical? I would hate to find out that it was deadly in part per trillion concentrations...

Well, considering the ingredients are water and Polydimethylsiloxane according to the label I don't think there should be any problem. Water, we know is no problem and Polydimethylsiloxane is the primary component in Silly Putty.

Well, I don't see any signs of a skull and crossbones.....;)

I might hesitate to use it for potable water storage without a chemist and/or the products manufacturer's blessing, but for a task like watering the garden, you've got yourself a nice tank. How clean is it? Has the product left a smell?

Thanks guys. It is has no smell and is very clean. I was told they rinse them out once. The print shop guy said to use at own risk so I was not very sure but it seems like there are no toxins in the silicone emulsion. I want to fill it with creek water and water my garden and trees. I'll rinse it out a few more times and fill it up. I should be able to move it about half full with my 3pt forks.

It wouldn't hurt to pull up the Material Data Safety Sheet (MSDS) on this chemical.
This might want you make a more informed decision.
