Kubota BX2200
Ive been wanting a RTV for years but couldn't afford a nice one and today i picked up a very used one, ( 2000 hrs ) for 3000.00
Has full cab doors heat wipers exc... I thought it was a good deal..
It starts and runs like new but it wont move... Its full of fluid, The brakes arnt stuck, new filters shifter IS working and i checked that the shifter was still moving the forks in the tranny through the top plate. It will move around the flat yard OK in med gear but any hill or stop and try to take back off its VERY weak. I can literally be on flat ground and turn the steering wheel all the why and it will not move.
I cannot get it to move in Reverse, Its hard to shift into the reverse gear ( but still doesn't do anything once in rev gear) wont move forward or reverse... Now, Thees low gear, Again hard to shift and does nothing but a very light creep forward ( as all gears does )
It shifts from MED to HIGH very ez as should but noting and low to reverse very hand and does nothing..
Im thinking i made a bad choice, Do i need to pull the tranny apart and see what the deal is or is it toast?:licking:

Its Like it has ho pressure, The motor revs up full throttle and make hardly any difference.
Maybe its got bent shift forks and between to gears?? I wish i knew how these trannys operated so i would have a better idea what to do... I at a loss..

Ive looked high and low for info on this and nothing..

I read through that a few hours ago, i think
I have a real issue here... Hopefully its fixable..

They're all fixable. if the machine is in good shape generally, I'd dive into it. You did well on the price if its in decent shape.

Did this issue develop as soon as you bought it?

Any noises or anything that stands out when it starts slipping?

Do the 900 trannies have a pressure relief valve? I would invest in the factory service manuals for a 900...they are around $70 but would be priceless for trouble shooting.

Does the 900 use the same VHT Plus as a 500? I have the manual for a 500 so if they are the same I can try to get you some info.

For immediate diagnostics, I would remove the mesh screen from the tranny and see how many metal filings are on it. If it does clean the screen up and try it again, you might get lucky. If not it should give you an idea of the overall integrity of your transmission if it wasn't cleaned by the previous owner recently. Sounds like you got a great price on it, the cab adds alot to the value so the machine sounds well worth fixing.

For the benefit of the RTV owners amongst us (myself included), please post what you discover.

Thanks for all the replys back guys!!
I would really like to thank you all!!

To start off, it makes nearly no noises at all other than the motor reving at 3000 rpm. I bought it like this.. The seller said that it needed some tlc as it wAs a 1 owner farm unit and his kids played around on it quite a bit. He said he drive it to where it was parked, ( i now realize i was told a lie)

Where is this screen as mentioned that could use cleaned? Its like there is No pressure at all, the only way i can get thus thing to take off is if i pull the pressure relese lever and let it snap back in a few time. Its like a very small burst of pressure for a split second. When i get it to move in med a little and i let off the gas it darn near locks ths wheels up, but i assume that this is the kubota breaking like my bx2200 has. I should also add there is bacicly no differance when it is warn vs. 20 deg. It does move under its own power ( barely) in one direction only when fully warm no matter what gear you are in.
I thought maybe some ice in tranny so i let it run and played around with it for a few hours and tranny was noticeably warn so no ice.

Is there a relif valve i could monkey around with thing

I have owned an RTV900 for almost 5 years. It shifts very hard....always has, and always will. Mine has a relief valve on the dash that you pull that relieves hydraulic pressure and allows you to shift gears easier. If you are on a hill and want to shift from forward to reverse.....it won't happen until you pull the relief valve...or shut off the engine and shift it. You will get used to shifting while rolling a bit....the gears grind slightly...but my wife and daughter have become proficient at it! Once, when my daughter got is stuck (in a manure pile no less!) the neighbor came over and tried to get it out....he decided that brute force on the shifter would make it shift....and he proceeded to bend the shift forks and it was then stuck in two gears....and would barely move. It was a relatively simple job to pull the top cover and straighten out the shift forks...then put it back together. There are adjustments to be made to the shift fork linkage, and when you get it right, it will shift half way decent. It is normal for the wheels to slow quickly and almost lock up when you let off the throttle...it is a hydrostatic design.

All in all...other than shifting...it is a great, heavy duty rig to use around the farm. I would buy another one.....I hear rumor that the newer models do shift better!

I did pull the top cover to check that, but they looked stright and were right beside each other. Notthing looked out of order so i closed it all back up. He ssy that his kisds had broke a fork before but he had it fixed.

You will get a lot of good advice on tractorbynet, but you might also want to check out this forum Net Tractor Talk - Powered by vBulletin

They have a section totally devoted to Kubota RTV's and they also have some very knowledgeable folks that are very helpful.
