I blew the engine in my Bobcat 863 , 1998 model, deutz engine. If buying a rebuilt engine about what would be the cost to put the new engine in (labor) and using any parts off the old engine that is necessary? Also about how long should it take to do this mechanic work? Thanks!

I had the same happen to my 843 with the perkins engine. A factory reman engine was $6-7k and
they want a rebuildable core or it's another charge plus freight charges.
I had a local shop rebuild my engine. $2k for rebuild kit. $1.5k for machine work and labor. Probably
another $1k expenses in some new parts what I call "might as well". I did the remove and install labor.
These engines are fairly simple to unbolt and remove. I feel that I can remove one of these engines
in about an hour. I spent several hours cleaning before and after removal.

Thanks, Frank. I do not use my Bobcat for commercial work, just use it around my place so I am of course trying to get it done as cheap as I can. Thanks for the information.

I forgot to mention these prices are from 5-6 years ago. There are not many
options when you need to rebuild these diesel engines. My original engine had
over 9500 hours, had lots of oil leaks and getting very hard to start. You can
get as much in an engine as what the whole machine is worth. I found out
that the $ for perkins parts is high and hard to find. I couldn't find a way to
do it cheap and do it right.
