A young man with a Thermal Arc 3 in 1 machine came over and did a real nice job of repairing my broken casting.

I hope the weld holds. Welding cast steel isn't that hard just using 7018 rods as long as you get full penetration. From your photos, it really doesn't look like he used full penetration welds so durability is a little doubtful.

What type of welding rods was used on the repair?

I can't tell you all what kind of rod he used. I think it was cast steel though. I used a middle buster through a mess o' roots and it is still holding. I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed.

" I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed."<<<<<<Sometimes that works when a repair is not quite 100% weld, lot of repairs tend to fail after awhile, main cause is LOF.

I had the same break a couple years ago root cause was a stress fracture from the boring of the cast in manufacturing. I found an old school welder that welded it up with nickel. It wasn't cheap but is now stronger than the cast iron around it.
