I have gotten a lot of information from this site over the last year and figured it was time to give something back =]

The Goal...

A quick attach hydraulic snow plow.

The Materials...
1 old 6.5' plow with bent mounting frame
2 hydraulic cylinders
5 1" pins
1 sheet of 1/2" steel 24x72
1 piece of 2" square tubing
1 pre-fab quick attach
2 feet of 1.5"OD, 1/4 wall bushing material

The plan...
Remove the bent mounting frame and discard...Check
Grid away the ugly old yellow paint...Check
Build a new mounting frame with square tubing...Check
Prime and paint the plow blade...Check
Drill holes for the bushings...Check

Install the bushings
Weld quick attach plate to 1/2" backing plate
Weld backing plate to triangles
Pin it all together
Run hydraulic lines from rear remotes
Plow Snow!...or wait 5 months and plow snow

Here are a few pictures of what I have so far

More pics...

Tonight was all about getting the bushings welded in the plow frame, cutting out the large triangles and drilling the main pivot hole in the large triangles.

I clamped a wooden triangle and used it to guide the cutting torch, which worked very well.

Today's project was to get the triangles drilled for bushings, install the bushings, attach the triangles to the back plate. I used the plywood straight edge for cutting the triangles again, which worked well. It took minimal grinder work to get a nice fit.

I am new to welding and would appreciate input from any experienced weldors out there.

I used a lincoln electric 220v arc welder that I got for Christmas last year for this project. I set it on 135amps and used 1/8" 7018 rod.

Here are the pics...

It helps to be a good welder. Very good job it shows that you are a good welder.

Marcus,

Your project is coming along nicely. I am especially impressed with the way you are cutting all the steel using a cutting torch & plywood guides. The pieces are coming out quite nice. Your welds are looking good too! It's going to be strong so it should hold up. I guess the plan is to wrap this up for the snow season, with the progress your making you should be ready for when the snow flies.

Is it going to be a quick attach type mounting system?

Yes, the plan is to make it quick attach...in fact, I finished it on Saturday.

I was very pleased with the speed and ease of the quick attach.

There are still the hoses to run from the rear connections, but that will wait until closer to winter.

Here are the pics of the completed snow blade and Saturday's progress leading up to completion.
