I built a tractor and just used a Wheel Horse tranny....makes backing up a LOT easier.
Unless you mean a two wheeler.....
I have a Midland you can have for $50...need the room.

i have a small tractor for work,
im just building the mini rowcrop for show and it will be small enough that i can put in neutral or disengage the belt and pull it backwards
i just want to no a good way to change gears so the trany would just be for forward geers

Gotta....got a lawn tractor tranny you can have too.

Just went out and looked at that tranny.....s'heavy! Shipping would be a bear.
Thing is...you're gonna have to step the speed way down from the engine to the axle. Can be done with pulleys and belts, but there are easier and cheaper ways.Maybe a gear box from a tiller? Sure, you will get a primary speed change from the step pulleys but that's still gonna be way too fast for the final drive. What's a go kart use...10-12 on the engine and 60-72 teeth on the axle? Plus, the tires are going to be much larger than a cart meaning the axle speed will have to be lower still. See what I'm getting at?

I got to agree with Bob on this one. There are a lot of lawn tractor transaxles for sale on e-bay for less that 100$ that have a 5 or 6 speed trans axle with reverse and the gear reduction is already done. I go to the Southeast Old Time Threashers Reunion in Denton NC every year and there are a lot of mini's built to look nearly like the origional production row crop tractors of yesterday and a lot of them have lawn tractor rear transaxles for starting points. Here are some that are on e-bay now.
transaxle, Parts Accessories, Riding Mowers items on eBay.com
