What is wrong with the 10,000's of New Holland and John Deere ground driven hay rakes that are available used?

But to answer your question, yes, it is possible to build one. But the cost for parts will most likely put you above the cost of a nice used unit. A simple rake like the New Holland 256 can easily be pulled by a compact (I pull mine with a 30 horse and it toys with it)

Where are you located? There are only a few 3pt rakes that I am aware of, most are wheel driven pull type.

Sitrex has several 3 point units, cart units and high capacity units.

There has to be a rake around. Have you tried John Deere in Kelowna, Abbotsford, or Kamloop? You might want to try Douglas Lake Ranch Equipment sales, Valley Auctions in Armstrong, also check the Western, the bargain hunter and the other auctions like Richie Bros. I know there are some of those around. You may want to take a drive to Keremeos or Merritt and Kamloops area.

Good luck.
