Anyone have any experience with Conestoga Buildings out of Harrisonburg VA? I'm thinking of using them to erect a pole building for me.

Thanks in advance.

Pat, have you talked to any of the Omish builders in PA? They are building a number of barns in the area and have stopped by my place when in the area. Yes they specialize in modulars but will also do pretty much any type of barn you want and only charge you time and materials.

The "Amish" in my area are just like anyone else and charge the same as most other non-Amish contractors.

Hmmm, the few companies I talked to were all from PA and were considerably cheaper than the traditional barn contractors down here.

I had an Amish guy build a pole barn for me last year. I saved at least 15% over a non-Amish contractor.

Could be several reasons for that.

1. You weren't lucky enough to find a cheaper non-Amish contractor.
2. The Amish chose to charge less in our area because they are exempt from cetain taxes to the government because they can claim a religious exemption. Therefore, they can charge less. Either way, they make more money than you and I can after taxes, since they pay a reduced tax load.

I have a couple Amish subs and I know how they work. If they're bidding against each other, or they are desperate for work, they'll charge less. If they're bidding against non-amish or they're busy, they'll charge as much as anyone else.

We bought a property last August that has a Conestoga built horse barn on it.

It is a 36x48 building, 1 stall on each corner, then a wash stall and tack room in the center on the one side, and a 2 stall sized storage area on the other side that is used for my new B3030 (obligatory tractor content) and hay storage. We also have 8' wide overhangs on either side.

It is a very nice building, and appears to be well built and solid. No complaints or problems other than the fact that the horses have beat up the hardware on the exterior doors to the stalls to the fields on a few of the stalls.

The only complaint I have, is that the previous owners that built the house and barn, didnt spend a few extra bucks and get the storage loft above the barn for hay storage. Otherwise, it is near perfect for our needs.
