Heater Hoses in tractor Cab ?????

...............If anyone has an L 30 series tractor with a coolant heater, I would really like to see how you plumbed it. Thanks

Here you go. My connection is at the bypass on the top of the engine. The hose marked "A" is a short 90 degree factory-installed hose. The top end was connected to where the "B" hose is now hooked into. The 90 degree hose is roughly 1/2" at the bottom and 5/8" at the top. Spinning it around allowed a coupling to be used for the one heater hose and have the size match. The "B" hose runs to the other side of the heater. It is valved in an H pattern that allows the coolant to either flow through the heater core or bypass it. There needs to be a path for flow of the coolant because the plumbing is in the bypass. The heater I used is a 20,000 BUT and is capable of providing too much heat on HI.

CHIM
I plumbed my heater the same way, (different brand)
My guess is that we actually used a thermostat bypass circuit that is meant for faster engine warm ups.

Yes, and when the stat opens there's still plenty of hot water going through the heater. The heater has enough output for me to plow snow in shorts and a tee shirt.

Is heater hose in such short supply you have to piece together sections? I don't understand why you need a coupling and two extra hose clamps. The price of the hose clamps would have paid for the extra hose.

If somebody has not said it yet, let's think about it. Where is the hottest and in combination the almost highest pressure coolant? Where is the lowest pressure area in the cooling system ?

I had hose left over when I was done. You may have missed the part where I explained the short existing hose was 1/2" on one end and 5/8" on the other to fit its connections on the engine. Both ends of the heater stubs are 5/8". At some place there needs to be a 1/2x5/8 adaptor. That is the purpose of retaining the short existing hose. It is a ready-made adaptor. The 1/2" end is connected to the engine and the 5/8" end is coupled to the 5/8" heater hose.

To be honest, until Curly Dave mentioned it in post #5 I hadn't given it much thought. It makes me want to pipe the connection to somewhere outside the cab. As far as where the greatest heat and pressure would be I'd assume the coolant entering the radiator from the engine would be slightly hotter. I doubt there's any huge difference in the pressure at different points of the cooling system. I guess it's possible for the pressure to be a pound or two lower on the suction side of the water pump.

Highest heat and almost highest pressure is just prior to the thermostat. Return the coolant to the water pump inlet. Otherwise the heater output will be somewhere between lousy and nothing. There are several past posts here about cab heaters with air locks at the highest point and no flow. Because the there is not enough pressure to push the air down several feet in height . Could not get some folks to understand that however.
