another snow plow adapter thread - b7800 & weston

I found a pretty decent looking 7' Western plow locally and I am thinking about adapting it to run on my tractor. I know there are a bunch of threads on here on this topic already, just looking for some specific advise.

I would like to mount the plow onto my FEL, which has an ATI skid steer q/A adapter. I also have a set of carry-all forks i use on the FEL with holes drilled into the forks for bolts. So I have a few options. 1) attach a skid steer q/a plate to the plow frame. 2) attach the plow frame to forks in a removable manner.

I've seen alot of people try and shorten the plow frame, I assume that I would want to try and do the same... Which may result in #1 being easier then #2? #2 would be cheaper and i think i will just need some L brackets and bolts where-as #1 very well may require some welding.

I should mention that the plow will just be used for my personal driveway, which is about 1000 feet long, level and gravel/dirt/crusher run. Here in NJ, we don't get a ton of snow, but I'm sick of using my buckets and having to empty them when they fill up.

I shorten mine for my BX due to the size of plow (big) and size of tractor (smallish). The B would be ok for not making mount shorter, but shorter is better for manuvering better. I would say mounting a frame to a QA is better. You never know if you need to swap front implements and when season changes- its easier. I thought the plow is a meyers, mine looked just like yours, I could be wrong though. When I got mine, it was painted over several times and rusted big time.

Thanks for the feedback. It could be a meyers... The PO claimed it was a "weston" but I dont see any identification on it. I'm going back to pick it up tomorrow so I'll take another look at it.

Picked it up today. It's a WESTERN plow, 7 feet, and all the mechanicals appear to be in order. The guy even threw in the pump which was used on the pickup truck it came from. I got everything for $125 (plus another $20 trailer rental) which seems like a pretty good deal to me. I don't think I will need the pump, I will use the tractor hydro.

I didn't realize how big this thing was until I saw it in person. It's huge, this is the professional series not the smaller standard series. I hope it's not too big for the B7800, i can see now why cutting down the frame and keeping the weight closer to the pins would make it easier to manage. Now I just need to figure out a way to mount it.

7 feet may be a little big for your B7800, but you can always cut it down. It's well worth the money you spent.

How it is pump powered in the original application? I assume the hydro lines connect to the right and left cylinders, but what about the big front bracket. Was this lift control? I guess I am missing the controller?

Just completed my plow conversion the other week. Really proud of it as it was some time in the thinking department. While I was thinking my farmer freind did the welding and did the job. Standard 3pt config. put some rubber top and bottom to make it easier on the fancy driveways. Just got the chains in the other day to give her some bling

I am going off memory since I saw the pics last night but now they are gone.

You are correct about the hydro lines, The front bracket is what would have lifted the chain that attaches to the "A-frame" therefore lifting the plow.

There wasn't any controller shown in your pics IIRC.

Yes, but why when you already have hydraulics available?

Plus you have to buy a controller.
