I just recently finished building a cab for my bx to be used for snow blowing. It is easily removed with 10 bolts. It is a 3 sides cab, but I could close it all in totally if I choose to. I am looking more for protection from the snow blowing back on me than for being able to heat it, although I may need to.
I tried to keep costs down, so I used some things I had around, but I had to buy most of it. It is constructed of 3/4'' plywood and plexi glass, with the glass held in with some gasket material I found on the internet. The gasket was probably the most expensive component, and the hardest part of the build, but it gave me the result I was looking for. I also used a piece of pvc coated commercial rubber roofing on the lid, custom mixed paint from the auto parts store, and I used some marine hinges on the door. I hinged the door on the sloped side so that it closes itself; it seems to work good that way, but I will find out this winter.
I'm wondering if I will have much of a fogging problem with it being 3-sided and having no heater. I store it in an unheated garage, and live in NH. I'd love to hear some thoughts on that. I don't know if any members have experience using the small 12 volt defroster units that can plug into a lighter type receptacle; not sure if they are effective.

Thanks for any and all comments

Jody

nice cab!! how long did that take you to build and where did you find the gasket? How did you cut the Plexiglas. I would close the back up and cover the screen around the battery with card board then put a Mr heater in there put it in front of the screen and hold it with a bonge strap. thats what I do works fairly good no fogging problem mine leaks a lot of air though. its easy to try

Thanks. I did it in a couple of months of spare time. I took my measurements and drew it up on autocad, checked it with some cardboard cutouts, and then went to town. Here's the link to the windshield weatherstrip; I believe I used the 0597 and the appropriate lock-in strip

I'm using two of the auto type heaters you're referring to and they work very well, the windows stay defrosted and they heat the cab as well. I'm betting after the first cold wind blows down your back you'll be grabbing the first thing you find to staple it over the back opening.

I use one of those 12v defrosters for fogging. But for heat I have one of those stadium cushions that you put in the microwave for 5 minutes - mine is called Atomic Buns. They heat is great and last plenty long enoough to clear 3 driveways (and still warm).

I think I will try one of those 12v defrosters; for what they cost there is nothing to lose. Temperature is not an issue for me, I just don't want foggy glass if I can help it. Thanks for the comments.

Looks great and certainly nice engineering if on/off requires just 10 bolts, lift up and drive away. I see a potential business opportunity. The name Jody's BX Cabs comes to mind. ;)
