Fire extinguisher mount

I've just added a fire extinguisher to my tractor. Couldn't mount it on the ROPS since I couldn't reach it from the ground, so I put it on the fender. Here's the metal I started with which is left over from building the barn. The bracket mounted and with the extinguisher in place.

Now, do me a favor. Get a real fire extinguisher. I suggest Amerex or Badger. I serviced extinguishers for 14 years. Real fire extinguishers do not have Kidde or First Alert on the label. Trust me, that Kidde is junk. One day, maybe when you need it the most, it won't work. Plastic is fine for lots of things, but a fire extinguisher valve ain't one of them.

Obviously, a fire extinguisher mount on a tractor needs to be much more robust than the typical home mount. I imagine we would need a metal mount with metal straps. What type of mount does one need and where is the best place to purchase it?

Also, I know there is a general concensus that a metal valve is a MUST over the plastic valve. Are these carried at the local stores?

Also, what is the best size? 2lb or 5lb?

Finally, can these be purchased at Lowes, etc? If not, where is the best place to purchase?

I owned/operated a fire extinguisher service company for 14 years. I speak from experience. Plastic valves are JUNK! Period. Ever notice that the places that sell those things DO NOT have them hanging on the walls of thier store? Think about it.

To answer your other questions, a 2.5 pound extinguisher is better than not having one. A 5# is twice as good. (if you can find a place to mount it)

Go to your local fire extinguisher service. (should be listed in the yellow pages) They will sell you a quality extinguisher, that they will service, and a proper bracket.
I would suggest Amerex, Badger, Ansul or Buckeye. (in that order) Stay away from anything branded Kidde, Flag, or First Alert.

lowes, HD, walmart etc. Big box stores. (or online if you have something else to order)

As a rule of thumb count on 1 sec of use per pound of extinguisher.

Just to let everybody know shipping charges will require a hazardous fee. UPS charges extra $25 I'm not sure but the others are probably about the same. This was on a 5lb abc type from Mcmaster Carr.

Since we are dealing with a petro fire if it ever occurs, it would be to good to use an ABC type one to two pounder. I keep one in my classic car. Knowing your tractor and how to cut off the fuel is a must. Co2 will also put out a petro fire quickly. The key to using a FE is knowing how to use it. You blast the base of the fire. There are many videos one should watch to prepare him/herself I'm the case of an emergency. Tractors such as the MF 135 that has an exhaust underside could spake a grass fire, so a FE would be a good idea.
