Set out to make my own ballast box.
This is a 4 cubic foot box made from remnant 1/4" thick plates I welded together.
I am going to use it for a while and see how I like it.
I am considering the idea of a mount to piggy back a second weight for larger projects only.
This here will be just great for wood hauling and snow removal this winter.
I'll probably will cap this off and paint it.

That's pretty nice- nothing sticking out too far in any direction.

How much do you think it weighs?

I'm using the Kubota ballast box my dealer threw in, and cutting up some old disk segments for extra weight to add to the concrete, but I'm thinking of either putting some cat 1pins on the side, and I'm mounting a hitch receiver to the bottom, now that I modified the 3-pt lift mounts to fit my HF QH.

Do you plan to put any accessories link tool box or tool holders on yours?

Thanks,
I wouldn't mind a chainsaw scabbard for my 2 saws.
But i like the fact it is tight to the tractor with no snag issues.
right now i think i will leave as is because i can always carry saws, gas,oil,toolbox.... in the bucket.

approximately #780 lbs right now.
#280 lbs of metal plus 4 cubic feet of stonecrete.

De Nada, I'm always looking out for a better mousetrap, so to speak. :D

I see your point, but my forgetfulness makes me worry about what will happen to my tools if I use the bucket while they're in there- there are whole threads about that happening here on TBN. :confused3:

We use our RO-BB flipped over [with the scarifiers off of it] for that purpose now [as a carry-all], but it's wide enough to make maneuvering hard in our many narrow access-ways.

One of the [necessary] downsides of living on a heavily wooded property. :cloud9:

Take care,
Thomas

Looks good, and very sturdy, you might consider putting 3 or 4 two inch pipes on the back to carry rakes or shovels if you ever use them from the tractor.. I put a 2 inch reciever hitch in the back of mine, very handy for carrying my sprayer or anything else I can think of to fit the standard receiver.

Kubota, Deere both carry them.
Northern tool an on-line retailer sells them.
NT also has retail outlets, no sure of all the locations

The price is a bit steep but thats why I made one.
check Craigs list for a used one.
Google homemade tractor ballast images and you will see a variety.
plywood filled with concrete...

Thanks...I'd seen most of those, but haven't been all that impressed. I just like the way you set yours up so that it's pretty tight to the rear of the tractor. I may have to bite the bullet and buy one to get me by until I can come up with something of my own. For some odd reason, I can rarely buy exactly what I want!
