I don't plan on lifting really heavy loads with it.
As far as 3/8" chain that it the smallest chain i have in my truck so thats what will be on hand to use.
Thought they would be nice for pulling fence posts, moving heavy items, securing items in the bucket and odd jobs of that nature.
Until i make my grapple I could pick up logs to move also.

They do make hooks meant for welding on, which sit a little nicer on the plate, but good job working with what you had!

One reason in favor of 3/8 hooks is that they will work on smaller chain. A 1/4 hook won't work on 3/8 chain.

Nobody suggested a 1/4" hook:confused3:
A 3/8" chain will fit into a 5/16 weld-on grab hook perfectly, but of course the lesser WLL of 4,700 (for G7 hooks) pounds must be observed.

I set out to use the weld on type.
I have one 3/8".
I called my neighborhood industrial fastner supplier and the didn't carry them in the store.
TSC,ACE,LOWES,HD - none of them carried weld-on
So I had these sitting around.
I actually liked the fact the slot for chain is slightly higher off the surface.

I am pondering turning the bucket upside down and reinforcing the bottom side of the top with some plate steel.
I read a thred on the " Thumb Grapple" there is no pipe cross support.
I might build one like this.
