I'm building a large crossbow and wanted to know the the type of steel that is generally used for C-style cultivator tines

Spring steel. Much like the pick up tines on balers and the seat posts on old horse drawn equipment. It is hard to bend without compromising the spring quality's of the metal.

The only thing I know for sure about them is they don't weld worth a darn. In the 60's I tried to build a stone rake on our grader blade for our motorcycle track. we didn't go 10 ft and had teeth flying all over the place. The weld held but the teeth broke next to the weld.
That should be some crossbow though.

Who's the giant thats going to shoot that thing? I have some new Danish S-tines wonder how they would work in a cross bow. Dang it, now see what you have done!!

Now there's a place to use up broken axles. Just sharpen one end and drop it in that thing. Could almost be classed as Armor Piercing.
