Another thing to think about is the terrain. If the area is flat then a wide boom is fine. If not when one side goes up the other goes down and the pattern begins to degrade. The wider you are the harder it will be to keep a constant height on the boom. I use a short boom, 10 feet but this is for my pasture which are far from flat. For me a 20 foot boom would hit the ground on one side and be 5 feet in the air on the other on a regular basis.
