I was looking at buying an aftermarket tractor roof, but got turned off by the prices. Went shopping at our local scrap yard and found a front roof pannel, from a Chevy Tracker. I welded two 3pt hitch adapters to a piece of 2"x2" angle and U-bolted it to the ROPS. Then I used some threaded pipe and 90s' to make the roof frame. Attached the frame to the roof using conduct clamps and when everything was in place, I drilled a couple of holes in the pipe ends and used two pins to keep it secured. Easy to remove for trailering or storage. Got it made for about $50. :cool2:

I am looking at building something similar but want it to extend back further so I can keep the sun and rain off me when using the backhoe. Is the back edge straight enough to join a second hood to it. This way I would extend it forward a little and still have coverage for the backhoe.

Thanks guys for the  Sfrankland, there is enough room for a second one on the rear.

Try using a golf cart top. Picked mine up for 20.00 from a local guy because it had a small crack in it. Worked out great for me and light weight.

It's a good idea but there are not many golf carts around in our neck of the woods. Is the roof ridged and can them be ordered in from somewhere?

Great job my friend. After last summers heat you might need that again this summer. Thanks for posting

roof is, I guess some what ridged. I supported it all off my rops and just extended it off there. The top is very light but very durable. I can try to get some pics this weekend if you are interested. Not sure where you can get a top in your area, but most golf courses have them and are glad to get rid of the broke ones, if they can make a couple of bucks. this will be my second full season with mine and I could not be with out.
