I didn't have time to wait for Northern to ship me their quick spade, Paumco Products Quick Spade Model# 1100-Quick Spade | Skid-Steers Attachments| Northern Tool + Equipment so I put this together last night.

3/8 plate, and some box tubing. Pretty much copied this design I couldn't figure out a good reason to have the tines so close together, so I left them wide in order to leave my forks in one of the locking positions. pallet-spade-s1-400x300.jpg

The paint is drying, so I'm not sure how it works yet.

That looks really nice and I'll bet it will work well. I'll bet one of the fab places is going to steal this idea.

something in me tells me that using the loader on this tractors as if it where a skid steer is a bad idea....

Looks good.

I built one earlier this summer and I built it to be used with the forks together. It works great with one modification that I have not made as of yet will be to cut the chain and add a bunggie cord because the chain keeps falling off.

Why not get one of the safety hooks with a keeper like they use on trailer safety chains now?
I think TSC may have them. That way the chain hook stays on. Or, look at what they have
to modify the chain to spade attach..

I think I would add some 2 to 3 in vertical or slanted sides, and taper and fill in the tubing on the bottom.

The chains only function is to keep the spade on the forks but that is a good Idea, I might have to look into that! I wish I had read this earlier as I went to TSC this afternoon!

The OP provided a link to one that looks about identical from Northern...

Personally I don't see it being too much different then any normal fork work... Of course providing that the operator exercises some caution because forks can definitely bend if torqued hard, but with a little fines I don't think there will be a problem.

If a trip to the store is required two hooks with clasps would be ideal as long as the clasps don't get twisted (which happens fairly easily lol). A bungie would also work. The third idea I haven't seen mentioned would be to just use two clevis rings so there's no open ends to let go and it would be a little more ridged.

I think I would add some 2 to 3 in vertical or slanted sides, and taper and fill in the tubing on the bottom.

I also agree here, might be easier to move something like a rock, or about anything for that matter with some sides to keep it on there. If the tubes had ends on them they wouldn't get packed full of dirt as easy either..

Nice project though. Looks good. Patiently waiting the review.:D

The box tubing was capped right off the bat.

We used the shovel to plant 20, 8' English oaks this weekend. I agree sides would be nice, but all in all it performed flawlessly. Digging a hole for the root ball took no time at all, 2-3 scoops with the shovel.

I used these to link the chain at the right length, it never came off 12891-3.jpg
