Looking for input I have a 21ft Tag trailer that I want to convert to a gooseneck the frame is double stacked 2"x4" 1/4 tube steel. I was thinking of using 2"x6" C chanle for the goose neck any thoughts on the size and form of the steel (C chanle, i beam, tube steal). And befor everyone starts with the just buy a goose neck I will have to shell out quite a bit more for a new trailer than what it would cost to modify this one.

I like your thoughts. My father helped out a friend a good few years back (5-10) and took a construction trailer after it was bought found out it was stolen so they converted it into a gooseneck. I think they used c channel but not sure. It fooled me As a little kid

I would most likely use the same material that the frame is made out of, but with out seeing the trailer would not recommend any course of action,

when my son re did my trailer, (I do not have a fifth wheel or ball), the frame on the trailer was either 10 or 12 inch channel and he used the same as what the frame was, and gusseted the corners, he also built a dove tail and ramps on it, and added a third axel on it, (guess what I no longer have a trailer).

Use lots of gussets and splice plates everywhere you can put one.

I remember reading here that another member converted a bumper pull to gooseneck. He made it in a way that did not alter the BP and the goose neck part could be easily removed. I tried searching for the thread but search isn't working for me on my work computer. It was a bolt on type arrangement.

I don't have any pictures of it that im able to upload at the moment but the frame is 2X4 X1/4" double stacked fully welded like a figure 8. I was just thinking about extending the length and keeping it a tag. either way it will be come longer and wider by the time I'm done and yes gussetts every where.

Very nice work, but that is a heck of a lot of steel.... Our 12t goose was nowhere near that heavily built.
