I'm starting to refurbish an old pontoon boat. The previous repairs were really makeshift, at best, and I'm stripping the deck back to the frame and replacing most of the top structures. The aluminum tubing that makes up the railings was fastened with plain zinc fasteners that had rusted severely.
I know that steel has some type of galvanic reaction when used to fasten aluminum. I'd like to replace the hardware that attaches the aluminum pieces together and to the deck. Would stainless steel fasteners cause problems?
