I decided to try something different for christmas. I have a little guy in need of a toy box. Now I'm no carpenter, but how hard can this be. I'm building it in the shape of a barn with a couple of 1/2 shelf / lofts for his smaller toys like hot wheel cars. This thing has become more challenging than I thought. Here is some pics. 20171201_131036.jpg20171201_131028.jpg20171201_131015.jpg20171203_201649.jpg20171203_201548.jpg

Very nice. I built a "pirates treasure chest" in the exact same shape as what you are doing. All hardware on the chest was solid brass. The top/roof on mine is a series of angled boards - eight to make it all the way from one side to the other.

From the way you have built the half shelves it obvious that the opening top will be half of the top. AH - the last pic shows that.

A suggestion - cut out child's toy/animal profiles from 1/4" sheet of plywood - paint bright colors - attach to outside of toy box.

Very cool! I had one shaped exactly the same growing up, only the entire "roof" flipped open and there were no shelves.

Well, I'm not much of a carpenter or a painter. I'm also really slow. Here is an update with picks. I found some paint at farm and home that is suppose to be the same red and gray as what is used on an 8n Ford tractor.20171210_172606.jpg20171210_151523.jpg20171210_170128.jpg20171210_174927.jpg

As today's self appointed safety police,:marine8point: There are special hinges or lid props that keep the lid up so it doesn't come crashing down on a toddler. A wise move to add on if you have not. Rockler has a bunch to choose from.

Looking pretty nice!

Well, I said I was slow. I got to paint around the cold weather, no heated shop. I got to try and wrap it up tomorrow and thursday, another cold front coming. Now the wife thinks I need to paint "barn doors" on it. Here is what it looks like now.20171219_200817.jpg20171219_194753.jpg20171219_200747.jpg

Well I'm not much of an artist. The doors and windows were a real challenge. I got a little step that attaches to the front. The next post will be the finished product.20171221_171922.jpg20171221_215344.jpg20171221_215401.jpg20171221_215401.jpg

Well, Santa and his elves got it done. Now I don't think a toy box would be any good with out toys (lol) here is the finished product. I'm worried, is he spoiled? (Lol).20171223_143109.jpg20171223_143120.jpg20171223_143200.jpg20171223_145655.jpg20171223_145655.jpg20171223_155802.jpg20171223_155748.jpg
