Dump Trailer

   / Dump Trailer #151
A bit more progress today on the trailor. I cut the back out of what will be the dump and got the hole for the hitch drilled through the tounge so now I can put the pin in to hole the insert for the hitch in place.I have two pieces of angle iron weld together ,they will support the front end of the dump when in the horizontal position.

Patrick_g I moved the dump more to the center so the center of the dump is on top of the axle. I then weled it ,should have checked my angle before I welded it espically after what you had said. My angle is less nw and I may have to reconsider the position of the dump and move it further ahead so the dump is more upright when in the dump position.

I also cut the side of the trailor today to reduce undeeded metal but as I cut one side it sprang open so I had to weld it back together.

Thanks for the interest. It makes me feel good to know that I'm not the only one out there wondering when I'll ever get to put in more time and make some more progress.

There is a famous Dutch beer commercial, their slogan is " Time isnt something you HAVE, time is something you MAKE" :D

Well, at least your dump bed is small enough that having to use a shovel to get it emptied is not quite the Herculean task that the 10 wheeler can be. Of course you might not dump sticky stuff but that isn't a safe bet.

I agree 100%. It's the one thing in life where all men really are created equal. We all have exactly the same amount of time in a day.

I've been MAKING time lately to spend with family, etc. I'll make time here in a week or so to get back to the dump trailer.

Yeah Iplayfarmer I agree with you , you have to be a loner to have time to get projects done within a reasonable time limit. I hope to get my project soon finished I have a hunting season around the corner and then this project comes to a hault if not completed.
I look froward to having this project completed so i can stat using it up to the cottage for back filling the rocky ground that is there.

Iplayfarmer, another one of my favourite quotes is:

For you it's hunting season. For me it's summer growing season. Although your project seems to be coming right along nicely.

My problem is that I think about the things that I want to build/modify in the season that I'll be using them. That means that I'm working on my mower/tiller/dump trailer in the summer when I should be using them and working on my scraper/snowblower in the winter when I should be using them. If I was smart I'd spend the winter fixing up the things I want to use in the summer.

Hooray! I finally got back out in the garage to make some more progress. I welded some eyes onto the tongue into which I'm going to attach the lever to actuate the dump pump.

Then, I took the whole Thamn Ding back apart again to touch up weld and improve the bracketing and bracing to give it structural support. Just to keep it interesting I've included a random picture of the parts and pieces laying helter skelter accross the garage floor.

I've gone around the welds on the lower ram brace. Now I'll add some more metal under it and around it. I'll do the same thing with the top ram brace and then add a bunch of angle pieces throughout as needed.

It sure seems like I should have more to post for the amount of time that I took doing it.

I cut 4" wide pieces of diamond plate to back the two ram brackets. Then I cut 2" triangles from the same diamond plate to use as darts to brace the brackets. I'm pretty sure the brackets aren't going anywhere.

I also use some more peices of the ATV racks as cross braces to stiffen up the dump bed.

I posted a few pictures below. Feel free to laugh at my welds. I'm still learning, and welding this thin stuff that those ATV racks are made out of is pretty tricky with my old stick welder.

I probably won't get back out to work on it again until this weekend. This will have to do for a few days.
