With an $8000 Buy It Now, it's obviously a scam auction.

The NC craigslist is being overrun with Tractors for sale at ridiculously low prices. If you contact the seller, this is the email you get:
(fyi, I'm currently jacking with this guy...just bored at work)
ETA: If you see a for sale amount with $#### US, chances are its a foreign national.

Hello there,

First of all you must know that right now I'm located in Houston, TX and the tractor will be shipped from here.
Here are some details about the tractor.
It has been never wrecked or damaged.
The asking price is $3800US, shipping included.
It comes with 2 years of warranty. All the manuals and the original
documentation come along with the tractor. You will receive it in
2-3 working days by DAS at your home address. It is
insured in case of damage.
The payment is fully refundable. If for any reason you do not accept the
tractor or if it has scratches, hidden defects, or it is not as
advertised I will even pay for the shipping back to my location if you
reject it but i'm sure that it will won't happen cause it works and
looks perfectly.
Because it is a large transaction we will complete the deal only using an authorised third party like Ebay, using their Business Purchase Protection Program.
If you are still interested just send me your full name and shipping
address. I will forward your infos and they will notify you about our
deal.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Thank you.
Robert

Yeah, you can always tell the scams by the poor spelling and grammar. And, the $$$US, as you wrote, is a giveaway.

Rule #1 for Craigslist is buy local so you can go see the item and complete the transaction face to face.

If the ad doesn't show a nearby location then ignore it.

And they emphasize that a listing containing a request to send money is certain to be a scam.

I've had uneven results with Craigslist purchases. I described my $2,500 backhoe purchase in this post (with a photo, even)
http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...-mystery-backhoe-does-anyone.html#post1177043
and the backhoe is perfect, worth more than I paid.

On the other hand $200 for a 'new, used once' disc was about what was worth. It had new pans but sloppy bearings. I bought it anyway.
http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachments/99075-tandem-disc-can-i-remove.html#post1127995
It's adequate for my use, a few hours a year, but it's not what was described in the ad.

the tractor in question has been listed on EBAY several times. the original sale has already taken place by the REAL owner, the scammers probablly just copied the pics and information and re-listed it. alot of things to look for that are dead give aways to these such as what many have stated in this thread. stick with tractorhouse.com, machinefinder.com, your local equipment trader, or your local newspaper, as well as taking a look on the for sale section of this forum. these are the safest places to buy from imho. also, if you arent sure if its "fishy" or not, post it on here...after all, they might can fool one person, but not EVERYONE. people on here will be more then happy to lend you sound advice on a purchase you want to make. they can even steer you in another direction you may or may not have thought of.

Yep. Same up here in New England. Exact... to the last word.

You'd think they'd vary it a little just to avoid boredom.

You see the same crap on myspace (those of you who use myspace know exactly what I mean). Six different ladies' picture with the exact same text in the e-mail or request.
I wonder how many hits they need per thousand spam mails to make a profit?
I guess the spammers are pretty stupid...or they think we're pretty stupid.

Perhaps not Roy,
In some cases, all you have to do is click on the subject in question on the internet, and the people that posted that info have what they were looking for from you. An active email account has market value for example. Gotta make sure all your malware software, etc. is up to date in those places....
