Kubota vs. John Deere...

Niche? Heck, deere about has the corner on the bigger tractors compared to Kubota. But, 15 years ago, kubota didn't have any 50 hp tractors. Now they have tons.

What does the future hold?

I dunno about that. There's a few "little" companies out there like CASE/IH, Massey Ferguson, AGCO, that sell a lot of 100+ HP tractors, too.
