Default Need ROPS for resale of tractor??

My dealer just came to look at my old tractor to determine the trade in price he would offer me. The old tractor is a Ford 1510 built in 1983 (pre-ROPS reg's). The dealer thinks he may have to add ROPS to the tractor in order for him to resell it. Obviously the cost of the ROPS would come out of the trade in price. I did some research and from what I found it looks like the 1510 is excempt from ROPS reg's because its less than 20HP. Is anyone familiar with the federal laws concerning ROPS?

Guess if he took in an old JD A or a Farmall H he'd want a ROPS on them? I bought a new machine around this time and I had to sign a couple of waivers cause I didn't want the ROPS. Get another dealer involved, could be the first one is really covering his backside or he's trying to get your trade for nothing. I'm going with getting your trade for nothing,, I was looking to trade up to a new machine and the dealer I was talking to only wanted to give 3k on my machine cause it didn't have power steering,,, like he was going to add that,, yea right. Born at night, but not last night!

He's beating you down...You'd be better to sell it open market than trade it...

Sounds like a BS line to me. "Older" tractors sold originally without a ROPS generally don't REQUIRE the addition of one to re-sell. If it's sold to a commercial or agricultural use buyer who plans on having hired help operate it, then a ROPS would be required. If so, that's an opportunity for the dealer to sell a ROPS, NOT a liability to him because it DOESN'T have one.

Ease on down the road.

They must have started adding them about that time. My 1910 came with no ROPS. Around 1983 I think.
