Zetor or ???
I've been looking at buying a newer tractor for quite a while now. Today i looked at a new Zetor Proxima 7441 4wd with FEL for $27,500. I really like all the features of this tractor but i'm not sure how they are about reliability. I also looked at a new 80hp Valtra 4wd with FEL for $35,000. Honestly i like both of them but i'd rather spend $27,500 than $35,000. I priced a John deere 5425 4wd with FEL for about $40,000 so i know i have to stay away from Deere. How are Zetors compared to Case IH or Massey Ferguson?

Re: Zetor or ???
I have a friend that has a Zetor (not sure what size), but he has had a lot of problems with the brakes on it. It seems they are hydraulic and he hasn't been able to find anyone that really knows how to repair them. Seems to be a good tractor other than the brakes.
One thing that I noticed when I got onto it was it had a leaver that you had to hold up to disengage the PTO so it would crank. It's a few years old though. Maybe a mid 90's model.

Re: Zetor or ???
You might try to get the dealer to give you names and numbers of others who have purchased similar tractors, and talk to them.

Re: Zetor or ???
Hey Matt ...
The Zetors look interesting to me ... I'm also looking.
I haven't gotten a firm quote, but talked about the 6441 without the cab. They also have a 10.5' backhoe. All he said so far was under $30K for the tractor and under $8k for the backhoe. Ha ...
A loader would be another $5000, so it seems I should be talking to him about closer to $20K for just the tractor, if I get that far.
I'm looking to pull a 6 row planter and maybe hook up sprayer, then a backhoe for ditches along the lane and rock from the creek bed ... and whatever ... of course a blade and maybe batwing mower.
For now I just plan to get some quotes and compare, but just found this site ... hopefully there are some Zetor owner forums somewhere. Let us know what else you find out please ...

Re: Zetor or ???
We had a 6245 Zetor for around 20 years and have had very little problems at all. The brakes are hydraulic and have been adjusted twice but hold as good as the brake on a truck. The lever someone mentioned is a PTO brake. You pull the brake engage the PTO and release the brake. On the positive side you can pull the brake hop off the machine and do what you need to to then hop back on and release the brake then pick back up where you left off. It make sense when you think about it. We would definetly consider a new one if looking.

Re: Zetor or ???
I drove bunch of different Zetors, which is only natural since they are czech made Zetor and they were the most common tractor in my country.
Can't tell too much about them, only that they were typically neglected (socialism, u know
- but kept going anyway.

Re: Zetor or ???
I went to the dealer today and drove the tractor. All i have to say is WOW. This tractor is nice! It's very comfortable and easy to use. This thing would more than double my productivity. And he shot me one heck of a price. It looks and feels like a really heavy duty tractor.

Re: Zetor or ???
The Zetor's are solid tractors. I would certainly take a hard look at them.
For those that have had service issues... those are dealer issues. Zetor's tech guy is top notch and knows everything about their products.

Re: Zetor or ???
The Kubota 7040 price (no cab) with FEL is about $31,700. ($5700 for the FEL)
I saw a new Zetor 6441 with cab advertised for $26,000 ... not close to me though. I'm guess without the cab it should be close to $21,000.
I see the Zetor weight without cab is 7510, whereas the weight of the Kubota M7040 is 4475, unless I am reading something wrong. That seems pretty significant. But what do I know ...
Matt, is yours with a cab? Care to share that "heck of a price"?
