I am looking at a Ford 7700. The owner is asking $6,500. It runs good.

Is the price reasonable or should I be looking for something else?

Hope to find something in price range of $4K to $5K

What models or brands I should avoid?

Trying to buy local however I will consider purchasing out of state and have it hauled by a company to me.

Any suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you are going to keep the tractor for many years I would suggest a used tractor with less than 1,500 hours. The major players are the safest bet. Ford, New Holland, John Deere, and Kubota. You need to decide the size and horsepower required for the implements you want to run first and then back your way in to the tractor. There is no other way. For $5K you will be able to find what you want. It's not going to fall in to your lap. It will take a bit of searching and some time to find it.

low price around here.

your 4k$ to 5K$ number is more inline with an older 5000 7000 or 8000 machine.

I am looking at MF 1105. Is this a good tractor? I have looked at hundreds of tractors online. It seems that people want a lot for old horrible machines.

Personally, I wouldn't buy out of state, I would certainly want to personally inspect the tractor before making a decision. Some things that look good in pictures don't look so good in person. YMMV.

I agree, when purchasing something like a used tractor, buying site unseen could really bite you.

Take a road trip and make a day of it!
