Default A little help with Massey, please...

Posted this in the M-F forum, but all I hear is crickets chirping and need to make a move if it is a good deal, So............

Buying a property in which the current owner has a MF 1020 with Turf tires and a 5ft finish mower (don't know the maker). Tractor has around 1400 hrs on it. I also have no idea what year it was built nor seen it in person. Lets assume it is a mid to late '80's model and in good condition. I believe it is 2WD

Guy wants $3500 and probably won't move off that price.

15 Acres to mow (pasture and grass).

I really would like to have an FEL and don't know if one can be had for this tractor, but if the price of the tractor package is a steal, I might just do it and then re-sell when I find something with an FEL.

What say the masses?

Sounds like a deal to me.

Me, I'd pass on it. Too old with too many hours on a 2wd tractor that's kinda useless. Just my opinion. I wouldn't give more than $1,200 for it. But, that's just me.

If you don't know what it looks like, go to Tractorhouse.com and take a look. It seems as if it is a 21 hp tractor. Looks a little small to mow your acreage but the decision is yours to make. The 2WD version I saw on there looked fairly old and it had over 1400 hours. However your person might have kept it in a covered location.

Pass on it.

Getting difficult to find parts for this series.

That money and a bit more will get you something better with and FEL or put that money towards new with some of the good financing rates.

Good luck

I know what the 1020 looks like, just have not seen this one in person to determine condition, and don't know its value with the finish mower.

In my thinking, if the package was say $2K I would jump on on it. But it is far from $2K and isn't really what I want for a permanent mini farm tractor.

On the other hand, I will need something to mow with as soon as I get down there. That $3500 price has me thinking that for a few thousand more, I should be able to get a decent CUT w/FEL and bush hog or center mower, especially in todays economy. If it is still around next week when I go down there to close on the property, I will determine what to do.

Just needed some opinions as to the value so I can tell the guy to either try and sell it or I want it. Think the "try to sell it" is the best answer at this point.

The only problem is parts, Hinimoto/Toyosha went bankrupt, so unless you are sitting on a major parts supply, I would pass on it.

You may be lucky and never have an issue, or you may be unlucky.

JMHO.
