Default JD955 v's JD790, 990 or 3x20 series

Hello Everyone,

This is my first post to the forum, although I have been reading it for some time now.

Here is my question:

I am looking to purchase a CUT. I recently sold my 4720. It may have been more machine than I needed, but with all of the bells and whistles it had, I was worried about the cost of fixing it if anything every broke on it.

I recently purchased a 430GT just for mowing and am finding out that I will need something bigger and that is why I am looking again for a CUT with less bells and whistles than the 4720.

I would like your overall opinions on the 955 v's the 790 and 990. I like the size of 955 and 790 but I worry if they will not be as stable as the wider 990 for mowing steep slopes. I also find myself leaning toward the 990 for the extra hp and weight but I do not want a maching as big as the 4720. How does the 990 compare to the 4720 with regard to size?

Thanks,
Jim

As far as size, a 990 (currently known in Deere's line up as the 4005) is the same size as a 4720, so you wouldn't really be changing anything as far as size. One thing to remember about the 790 and 990 is that they are both gear driven tractors. If a hydro transmission is something your looking for, but in a bare bones configuration, then I would suggest taking a look at the new 3E series machines. The 3032E and the 3038E, which come standard with a hydro transmission and have an available fixed, non-removable loader.

The 955 and all the x55's (755/855/955) are pretty much bulletproof.. Good machine.
Only problem with them IMO is buying them used...hard to find a good deal on them.

I'd probably lean towards what WH401 said and look at a 3032E... None of the 8/955's I've seen for sale around me have been at a price I'd consider "reasonable" for what your getting...
