My girl friend has a very small horse farm and uses her yard tractor to pull a small ground driven manure spreader. The Scott tractor she has doesn't have any traction in the mud (An inch of mud and she can't go anywhere). She looking at buying a new yard tractor and has narrow it down to 2 possibilities, a Simplicity with locking differential, and a Cub with hydrostatic drive. Both can be equiped with ag tires. This dealer states that since the Cub has hydrostatic drive which will put power to both wheels the Cub will handle the mud. This dealer sells both brands, but has the Cub in stock and will have to order the Simplicity, so he doesn't have much incentive to lead her wrong. I know the locking differential will work, will the hydrostatic drive? She likes the Cub, it appears to be built heavier.

Any dealer of any product would rather sell one out of stock than order one. There are lots of reasons for this. Cash flow is immediate. Free floor plan on the one coming in to replace it. Nearing the end of floor planning on that unit. The sale is locked in and done so no more shopping at competitors.

All of this having been said, there's no reason to believe your dealer isn't being completely candid with you. I only explained the above to illustrate the point that having both brands available in and of itself does not at all eliminate incentives to sell existing inventory instead of ordering a unit.

Now THAT is the reason to buy one. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Have you considered an ATV for towing purposes... like an automatic Polaris 4WD for similar monies... (much more grunt power & true 4WD) and worse comes to worse... you can use a large tow-behind hd mower deck for enhanced use... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Ask the dealer to bring it out to her place and see if it will do the job. Tell him if it does the job, he's made a sale and can leave it there.
