Tractor
NH TC29D, 640 Ford, G1800-S, Grasshopper, Jacbosen
Im gonna look at a David Brown 1973 tractor 40hp Don't know the model yet
But Im thinking it might be a good buy.
it has a Front End Loader with 6' bucket self leveling bucket and loader.
Power steering 540 pto and 1000
rubber is pretty good he says.
Looking at it as a project tractor.

$4000
also has a 6' rotary tiller for $600 don't know the brand
also has a 6' blade and 6' mower to sell.
i may get some pictures tomarrow if it don't snow too much.
says he has a bigger tractor and doesn't use this anymore and wants
a skid steer so he can clear pastures.

anyone have any ideas on the value if its in decent shape.
Thanks
Steve
Forgot to mention that its diesel, says runs all day of 5 gal of fuel.

Should be a good deal if it is in decent condition, sheetmetal is one of the hardest things to fix up. David Brown (Case) made some good tractors so with a fel self leveling $4000 is a fair price. I would look into the tractor and implements for a combined deal.
I sold an old International 460 earlier this year with a cruddy loader for $4000. I would rather have the David Brown, much better tractor IMHO.

make sure it runs and drives good in all gears.. post the model number as well. Keep in mind while not a full fledged orphan.. some parts are getting $hard$ to find.

If it has 3000-4000+ hrs on it let it warm up real good and check out the lift capacity of the 3 point hitch. They are bad about wearing out the Pump housing and a replacement is almost impossible to find. My brother-in law just got rid of his 990 DB because it would not lift more than 300-400- lbs--Ken Sweet

Keep your money in your wallet and find another project tractor. That DB will become a money pit. You'll pay through the nose for parts.

I bought a 1951 Minneapolis Moline BF tractor last year as a project. Paid $1300 for it off craigslist. Already have $1600 invested in an engine rebuild. I was lucky to find parts for the Hercules engine in that BF. I'll probably have over $4K invested when its ready to roll.

Just retired my 1952 David Brown. Drove it for 20 years and didn't spend $100 on repairs. "David" always started on the coldest mornings (with a whiff of ether) and you're right!.....it ran all day on 5 gal. of diesel.

Finally blew a head gasket and sold DB for $200. The new owner had a parts tractor to salvage parts from & got him running again.

I'm told that replacement parts are getting very rare and that should be the main consideration before buying a DB. But on the other hand they seem "bulletproof"!.......58 years old & still tickin'.
