JD 3320
I have a 2006 JD 3320 with 300 hours and want to add the 485 backhoe. I'd like to be able to use a 24 inch bucket in clay with this setup mainly for removing stumps. I'm concerned the tractor may not be large enough since it is at the low end of the horsepower rating for the 485 hoe. Does anyone know how the 3320 performs with the 485 hoe? I am considering trading the 3320 for a 3720 but it has the same hydraulic rating as the 3320 so I'm not sure if this would help.

thanks

How many stumps will you need to pull.??

Can you rent an excavator for the job.?? I think that would be the better tool.

I had a JD 5420 with the 49 Hoe, and I could run the hoe at just above idle speed without any problems. I can't imagine you having a power problem with your tractor. When I ran the engine slow, the hoe would just work slower, but I still had full pressure available.

24" bucket to remove stumps? You want a narrow bucket so as to get under the roots and break through them.

+1 on kennyd post.

I had an 18 inch bucket on my Kubota B21 TLB. Good for making holes. I got a 12 inch bucket for stumps. Also use it for trenches. Haven't had the 18 inch bucket on in years.

Imagine the curl force of the bucket. More PSI on what you are digging or cutting with a 12 inch bucket than a 24 inch bucket.
