As much as I hate Sears I have to passs this along

Sears - Christmas shopping this year.

I know I needed this reminder, since Sears isn't always my first choice. It's amazing when you think of how long the war has lasted and Sears hasn't withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at least one thing at Sears this year?

How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up for active duty.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years.

I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears at least once, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement & feedback it well deserves.

Pass it on.

I decided to check this before I sent it forward. So I sent the following e-mail to the Sears Customer Service Department:

I received this e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement for your company. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item, even if it's cheaper at that store.

This is their answer to my e-mail:

Dear Customer:

Thank you for contacting Sears. The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback.

Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time.

I was heading out to Best Buy to get my Daughter a 24-32" flat screen for her bedroom as a Christmas gift. I will now be buying it a Sears, even if its a few dollars more. By the way I was not in the military but know many that were. I support them 100%. I also worked at Sears for 4 years throughout college. Not only was it a good job but working in the tool dept had its perks. I got great deals on items. Once a month they would let us get the best price possible on stuff we wanted beyond our 10% discount. I got a $1200 tool set for $180 because it was on clearance, my 10% on top of that and using a 20% off coupon they had going. Great place back then.

At Sears you just need to find the right sales person. I found out years ago when buying new appliances at Lowes. The discount I was getting suddenly fell trough for some reason? I left and went to Sears, Found the right sales person and have never looked back. You just have to deal! You can get just as good a price there as anywhere else. Aaron

Bill - great post...My first rifle came from Sears...I will always have a warm feeling from them and we bought things there last Christmas and the employees were friendlier than those in any other store..I do not know why more folks don't shop there instead of Wally World...

"I do not know why more folks don't shop there instead of Wally World..."

Number of reasons:

1-There are many more full size/service Wal-Marts and Supercenters around the country these days than there are Sears. My local small town Wal-Mart is now a Supercenter with everything (groceries to sporting goods) in one stop. We do have a local Sears outlet but it is a small store front with primarily floor models of appliances, power equipment, and some tools. Most things require ordering as opposed to buying. The local TSC supplies more "ready to go" stuff than the Sears.

2-Most remaining Sears these days, around here, are in more populated areas in either mini-malls or full-on malls. Major highways and thoroughfares, traffic situations, etc. Not exactly friendly for the drive-up and haul-off customer. As opposed to this Home Depot, Lowes, Supercenters, TSCs, and Northern Tools are all stand alone locations that are easier to access and work with.

You rarely see any stand alone, off the main, Sears stores with large stocks of ready for sale items. They're either large and stocked.......in a mall..........or small and local..........where you have to place an order and wait a bit to get your stuff delivered unseen.

I can go to my local stand alone Lowes/Home Depot/TSC and see the very mower/tool kit/appliance I'm going to take home and back the pickup up and load it.

That's the difference.
