    Default Flail mower on Craigslist

    Vertical Cut Bush Hog

Is it me, or does this look like a heck of a deal? I have the impression that flail mowers usually go for a lot more than this, even used. Best part is, since he calls it a "vertical bush hog" it's not likely to get many hits.

I don't know that I would say that it is the deal of the century, but it is not too bad. Depends on what condition it is in, more than you can see from the pictures. Do knives need to be replaced, are the bearings tight, etc...

Junk to me.. The 200 new blades don't even fit the mower.

The Mott 72 mower has twice+ (184) the blades of any other flail. That being said, the blades on that mower should be almost 5" long and from the pictures don't look it. This is what the blades on a Mott 72 should look like:

Right click then choose "View Image" then left click for a detailed view of the blades.

The above are finish blades but will take down 4 foot guinea grass all day long. My Mott is almost 40 years old and still going strong. Make sure that the flail drum and rear roller are straight cuz they are THE most expensive parts on the mower. Turn the PTO to make sure the drum turns easily and check that there is oil in the gearbox before you buy it. Look at all of the grease points to see if it has been well greased ... not necessarily fresh grease. If you can get the seller to run it on his tractor even better!

    Good luck
