X530 vs x540
I am looking at buying either the John deere x530 or the x540. Any thoughts on the difference in air cooled vs liquid cooled. The dealer quoted me $700 more for the x540
Thanks
David

Re: X530 vs x540
I prefer liquid cooling to air cooling if available. The engines seem to last much longer although you do have to keep the radiators cleaned vs just blowing off the crap on the cylinders on the air cooled ones. The liquid cooled engine when properly maintained should last a lifetime.

I agree with Gary I would prefer the liqiud cooled engine. In reality the air cooled will probably last forever. I know the Kohler command's are designed to last 2000hrs and probably the saw goes for the Kawasaki. I mowed grass for a guy that had a X548, it was a pretty nice machine.

Thanks guys. I have a GT275 that I have had for 15 years and no problems. Just trying to decide if its worth the difference for the liquid cooled.

If you ever decide to put a cab on it down the road the liquid cooled will be the way to go for heat.

I have the x540. Great machine. For $700 difference, I would go for the x540.

I found a dealer close by that has both in stock. I am going thursday to check them out. Also if you buy now the warranty doesn't start till spring and they have a pretty good incentive. So I may bring one home.

I have a x540 with close to 300 hours on it and love it. The radiator is right on top of the mower and easy to clean with a leaf blower. Go liquid cool.
There is nothing left that will eat it so I have to cut it.
