I assume the seller has no maintenance records on that tractor. So you're flying blind. My concern would be the condition of the clutch more than the engine. I'd especially check that the pto shifts properly.

We have been taking golf coarse tractors in trade with 7,000 hours on them with no troubles and with some up to ten thousand hours and never being touched! Sold off to consumers to add the meager 50 to 100 hours a year and run fine. They normally are started once a day and run for eight hours plus on a golf coarse!!!! Remember the most wear is from starting! I'd look at the general condition and then, if it looks like it's been roughed up have fear and caution. Kubota engines are built toough with some of the best designs and metal in the industry.

on the clutch.. look at the freeplay adjustment mechanism.. see if it's been used up...
